Block #1: Advanced Variations of Foundational Movements

In this block, we bring “fancy” movements and then strip it back to reveal the foundations underneath, then train these movements through multiple sequences and contexts.

We explore what happens when we layer timing, direction, elasticity, head movement, and intention onto familiar foundations, transforming simple movements into rich, dynamic dancing.

After years of dancing and teaching, we’ve found that the only real formula for continous improvement and enjoyment in dancing is practice, practice, practice.

Zouk in Focus is intentionally practice-heavy, giving you the time and repetition needed to fully integrate movements into your body so they remain accessible, responsive, and alive in your muscle memory on the social dance floor.

Fair warning: it's a bit of a "sink or swim" approach if you do not have the Zouk fundamentals — you'll be jumping into material designed for Zouk dancers with experience. A short story about us

Sara has been teaching Brazilian Zouk since 2013, with a strong focus on social dancing, musicality, and embodied movement. Jeff brings over 10 years of Zouk experience, known for his dynamic freestyle style and technical clarity.

Together, they are Advanced BZDC Jack & Jill competitors, with multiple podium placements, and are passionate about developing high-quality dancers within the Sydney Zouk community.

As co-founders and directors of Zouk Unity Sydney (2019–2025), alongside Heidi and Sunny, Jeff and Sara led five years of consistent classes, social events, workshops, and international artist weekenders, hosting artists such as Renata & Jorge, Bruno & Raiza, Marck & Melissa, and Nina & Matheus.

They have taught, performed, and led performance teams — including the long-running Balao Brothers Boneca Babes — at festivals across Australia and internationally, including Brazouky Melbourne, Casa do Zouk, Brisbane Zouk Festival, Zouk Central NZ, Zouk SEA, and Hashtag Zouk Festival.
